When a house flipper's sister vanishes and the Coast Guard suspects she faked her own death, Ellie must find her sister before they do.

Ellie Blackmore is making a name for herself as a house flipper. But when her sister Mackenzie disappears, Ellie can't focus on anything but uncovering what happened. Her only clue is the bloodstain on the deck of Mackenzie's boat. Ellie knows her sister isn't on the best of terms with her ex-husband, Jason, but he wouldn't kill her—would he?

Coast Guard intelligence officer Grayson Bradshaw believes Mackenzie faked her own death after stealing a seized cocaine shipment. The problem is convincing Ellie, who seems to view him as the true enemy.

Both Ellie and Grayson want truth, but truth—and family—is often more complex than it first appears. And they'll quickly find that the dangerous beauty of Lavender Tides is harboring secrets that reach around the world.

Coble’s so-so second Lavender Tides novel (after The View from Rainshadow Bay) finds Ellie Blackmore busy fixing up old houses in Lavender Tides, Wash., until her sister, Mackenzie, goes missing. Blood found aboard Mackenzie’s boat suggests she may be dead. A few days after her disappearance, the town sheriff receives a tip that Mackenzie is alive in North Korea; the anonymous caller claims she was spying for that country and the boat abduction was staged. Meanwhile, Grayson Bradshaw, a civilian working for the Coast Guard Investigative Services, has been engaged in a highly personal search for terrorist Tarek Nasser, who killed his best friend. A cocaine theft that could lead him to Tarek has been linked to Mackenzie, which is news that Ellie, who’s sure her sister is innocent of all wrongdoing, doesn’t want to hear. Cute Ellie and handsome Grayson uneasily join forces in the hunt for the truth, and despite the discovery of more incriminating evidence about Mackenzie, the attraction between them grows. Fans of romantic suspense will best appreciate this unconvincing mix of thriller and cozy elements.

Ellie is stunned when her sister Mackenzie disappears after an argument. Coast Guard intelligence officer Grayson Bradshaw believes Mac faked her own death after stealing a cocaine shipment. Ellie refuses to accept that her sister led a secret life, yet after several attempts are made on her own life, she begins to think Grayson might be right. But as the passion between the two grows, so does the danger as they seek to uncover the truth. The corkscrew plot will keep readers guessing, as it careens one way, only to veer in a completely different direction. VERDICT Taking place on Washington State's Puget Sound, this follow-up to The View from Rainshadow Bay features delightful characters and an evocative, atmospheric setting. Ideal for fans of romantic suspense and authors Dani Pettrey, Dee Henderson, and Brandilyn Collins.
