K-Gr 2-Amelia Bedelia loves going to school because everyone gets along so well, but that changes when they have a rainy period and the students divide into two clubs: Puddle Jumpers and Puddle Stompers. Each club wants her to join them, but how can she choose? She certainly doesn't want hurt anyone's feelings. After a discussion with her parents and a good night's sleep, the girl comes up with the perfect solution to combine the clubs and make everyone happy. This younger Amelia Bedelia lacks the silliness of her bumbling and literal adult self, even as she pictures rain coming down in buckets. The colorful cartoon illustrations have a nice energy, though, and the text is well placed for emerging readers. Overall, this story goes down like a spoonful of sugar, but it is an adequate early reader, and children who enjoy Amelia Bedelia may enjoy reading about her social scrapes.-Melisa Bailey, Harford County Library System, MD

In Club, young Amelia is "torn between two choices" when her classmates divide into different clubs: should she join the Puddle Jumpers or the Puddle Stompers? In Luck, Amelia breaks a mirror on Friday the thirteenth and learns about superstitions. Literal-minded Amelia's signature mistakes play out in the easy-reader text and lively illustrations; kids will appreciate Amelia's solutions to her age-appropriate dilemmas.

K-Gr 2-Young Amelia Bedelia's classmates usually get along, but not when it rains. Then two clubs form-the Puddle Jumpers and the Puddle Stompers. Each wants Amelia to be part of their group, but in joining one she will upset friends in the other. What will she do? Her compromising solution is a good lesson in unity. The audiobook is read with great enthusiasm by Christine Ebersole, who creates different voices for each character. This would make a nice pick for listening centers, or a good discussion starter about cliques and how to avoid them.-Teresa Bateman, Brigadoon Elementary, Federal Way, WA
