We believe that for the passionate hunters they are either hunting, or spend their time wishing they were hunting. This publication helps them get through that time when they are not actually in the bush. Our reader is more committed, more passionate and has tremendous interest in just about everything to do with the African Safari. From cover to cover the AHG brings you everything you need to know about hunting the great continent of Africa. DEATH IN THE LONG SHADOWS • In Death in the Long Shadows, Francis Flavin takes avid readers of African hunting literature both where they want to go, on a dangerous game safari in Namibia's renowned Caprivi Strip, and where many would rather not go, on a voyage of deep personal reflection focussed on fear, morality and mortality.

New Frontiers for PREDATOR MANAGEMENT • In most parts of Africa there is endless friction between livestock farmers and the predators that threaten their domestic animals. In many cases the quick and nasty solution is laying out poisoned bait for the predators. Unfortunately, many non-target creatures may take these baits, often with devastating consequences. A researcher in Botswana is exploring a novel switch to smarter chemical warfare, which holds potential as a new frontier for keeping predators away from livestock, without the risk of indiscriminate killing of innocent players.

Fuller Forest JUMBO. • After the monumental trek of ‘The Happy Walk” outlined in my first book, another elephant hunt was organized with Mbalabala Safaris, which is only one-and-a-half hours’ drive from Victoria Falls. Lin Stanton was in partnership with my old mate Tienie Kok, who was once again my guide.

The Golden TINY TEN Quest • It all started about fifty years ago in a small town in Eastern Washington. I can still picture being ten years old and taking my first mule deer, and in that single moment sparked a lifelong obsession with the outdoors that is just as strong today as it was back then.

Triple Trouble BUFFALO • It was a crispy autumn morning in Africa. May, to be precise, when I got the call from Blondie Leathem, the wildlife manager on a large conservancy - a conservation success story located in the southeast of Zimbabwe, close to Beitbridge, the border town with South Africa. Blondie, an ex-military and no-nonsense figure, asked if I was available to guide a safari in June. I jumped at the chance to get back into the bush after my first safari in April/ May with a delegation from Bahrain (a story for another time). I was in camp the day before the clients arrived and met up with Tim and Brian Ellement, whose clients they were. The camp would be full, with three PHs, three hunters and their wives.

Into the Wild: A Journey Through AFRICA'S • Last year, I had the opportunity to take my girlfriend, Manon, to one of the most special places in my world - Africa. I had been there many times before and found that each journey had left a lasting impression on me, shaping my understanding of the wild and deepening my appreciation for lands so different from home.
